‘Master electrician Oskar’ – under this name, 27-year-old Oskar Kohl energetically shares his journey into self-employment on Instagram, driven by passion, curiosity and enjoyment of AI. He now wants to build his company ‘Kohls Energie’, founded on 01.01.2026, with the same determination and energy.
The promise that the young master electrician specialising in energy and building technology makes to customers on his website (www.kohls-energie.de) is ambitious. He wants to be seen as a trusted master craftsman. To achieve that, he puts reliability first and takes responsibility for providing his customers with a dependable power supply. Anyone who meets him knows he means it. And he is certain: ‘Reliability pays off. After all, the power outage in Berlin showed how indispensable a good electricity supply has become for us.’
‘The higher the standards, the better,’ Oskar Kohl says with a smile, confirming what drives him. ‘You grow up and become independent quickly in a skilled trade. That’s an advantage when starting my company too.’
The young founder prepared to launch his company in just under six months alongside his full-time job at a large electrical business in Goslar. WiReGo’s startup event series and advisory service supported him. He has summarised his experiences with business plans, financing, tax advice and more in short Instagram videos as a resource for other founders. Supporting the next generation is also close to Oskar Kohl’s heart. In the long term, he wants to train apprentices himself. At the same time, he wants to champion skilled trades, which offer fulfilling work, variety and future opportunities. After 11th grade, he consciously chose a practical path and began training as an electrician despite some critical voices – a decision that has proved exactly right.
The move into self-employment came from the heart. He told his previous employer in good time and, despite the close bond, moved on with a good feeling and great gratitude. They will continue to work together, however. ‘There are tasks I can’t cover, and then of course I’m happy to refer people on,’ the founder says. ‘Even though I find it hard to turn down enquiries, I stick to my core values: honesty and reliability. In the end, my customers benefit most from that.’
Meeting Oskar Kohl, you get the impression that he has been self-employed for many years. He benefits from his experience, from passing his master craftsman’s examination at just 23 and from the greater personal responsibility this brought in his work. But alongside his passion, the founder has a measured side. His business plan does not envisage hiring an employee until the second year. First, he wants a stable order book so that he can be a reliable employer too.
Oskar Kohl is attached to his home region. As a Goslar native, he loves his town and wants to give something back to the region – not only as a volunteer firefighter but also as a founder. To balance the commitment involved in launching his business, he values time with his girlfriend and family all the more.
True to his slogan, the next chapter of his life is ‘guaranteed to be exciting’.
