Challenges of starting a business

The more deeply you explore starting a business, the more questions are likely to arise. To help you tackle the challenges of starting a business deliberately, here is an overview of the key points, with links to further information.

We’re happy to advise you personally on any questions you still have.

Support for every need

The requirements vary depending on your background when starting a business: after university, while unemployed or in other life circumstances. You’ll find specific information about these different starting points on the detail pages alongside.

What you need to think about

Challenges of self-employment

Business idea

What do you want to offer?

You’re passionate about an idea and believe it can sell. Your vision is to offer solutions or products that don’t yet exist in this form on the market. These are ideal starting conditions for successful self-employment. To make it work, your idea needs refining so that it can become a successful business model.

Business model and legal form

Which legal form suits you?

Whether a sole proprietorship, partnership or legal entity; a new business, participation, succession or franchise: there are many legal forms and concepts for organising your business. The right legal form for your type of startup depends on your business idea, business model, company size and personal preferences.

A business model answers these questions:

Business plan

Detailed planning for your venture

Your business plan puts your business idea and model into concrete terms. You create a useful roadmap for starting your business and for the first three years. Among other things, you examine your offering, competitive analysis, opportunities and risks, and the finances you need in detail. Unanswered questions and any need to adapt your idea become clear.

We explain what matters when writing your business plan in our seminars.

Expert assessments

A requirement when starting a business while unemployed

To receive support in the form of the startup grant or Einstiegsgeld when starting a business while unemployed, you need an expert assessment based on a business plan. If you receive basic income support, WiReGo must assess the viability of your business idea as a neutral body; if you receive unemployment benefit, WiReGo can do so. A positive assessment allows you to apply for the grants.

Applications and permits

Who needs to be informed and what needs approval?

To comply with the legal requirements for your startup project, you need to deal with some authorities. The conditions and permits required vary depending on your business model and industry.

We’ve put together an initial overview of the various applications and permits, along with contact persons who can help you with the details.

Financing and funding

What support is available to finance your venture?

Once you’ve looked closely at financial and liquidity planning, reality may set in. Can your venture be financed at all? If your business idea is convincing, you have a good chance of receiving support. Various funding programmes for starting a business are available regionally and nationwide.
