A Successful Start in Self-Employment Through Business Succession

Running his own company was a childhood dream for 39-year-old industrial engineer Tarek Abram.

Tarek Abram fulfils his dream of professional independence

From Osnabrück via Hamburg to the Harz

Born in Osnabrück, Tarek Abram studied industrial engineering in Hamburg. As an employee of the OKE Group, he moved to Goslar in 2016. First as an assistant to management and shortly afterwards as managing director, he was responsible for the business success of KKF Fels for seven years.

The attractive position was the decisive factor in his move to Goslar. “At first, I actually wanted to continue living in a larger city,” says Tarek Abram. “But on my first visits, the people’s mentality and the city’s atmosphere won me over.” He is now connected to the region and made a very deliberate decision to take over a business in the Goslar district.

Succession as an opportunity for the future

Although Abram successfully mastered the demanding challenges as managing director of KKF despite the crisis-hit automotive industry, he could not let go of his desire to own a business. The industrial engineer explored business succession and researched various platforms. Ultimately, Thomas Kausch (Allianz für die Region) put him in touch with Böhm Feinmechanik.

The traditional craft business was founded in 1949. It manufactures electronic enclosures and assemblies, among other things, for sectors such as biotechnology, defence and aviation/aerospace. “The company has grown over decades thanks to its expertise,” says Tarek Abram enthusiastically. “Now it is my job to organise the structures and processes that have evolved over time so they are fit for the future.”

Key priorities include digitalisation and strengthening the team. The company now has 60 employees, around 20 more than when Abram took it over. In recruiting, colleagues helped attract candidates through word of mouth, among other means. “I have always finalised contracts very quickly,” the entrepreneur explains about his strategy. “I also see people’s potential and consider which area of responsibility they might be suited to.” This means Abram can count on a highly motivated team. “They all support the changes, even when I’m sometimes in too much of a hurry,” he says with a laugh.

With support from Reinhard Schwarzer of WiReGo, the company is seeking funding from NBank for investments. Abram plans to invest a seven-figure sum in the company over the coming years. His close contacts throughout the region and the consistently helpful support from WiReGo give him confidence in this undertaking.
