What to consider when working on the side
Combining a part-time primary job with self-employment as a secondary activity is not uncommon. A status determination procedure by the health insurance fund clarifies which income is taken into account when calculating health insurance contributions.
It is highly advisable to do this to avoid unpleasant surprises. It is quite possible that the statutory health insurance fund will decide that income from the secondary activity should also be included in the contribution assessment. In that case, contributions must be paid for both the dependent employment and the self-employment.
